This experience can be even more frustrating, if your language skills are not up to the task.

As a newcomer there will be many instances during which you will encounter these problems.

For instance, do you need any paperwork from the local prefecture, or the Marie? Have you brought over your foreign registered vehicle? Are you concerned about the medical system?

Of course, there are already many sources of information to help you navigate your way around...but that still leaves YOU to interact with the various French systems.

The solution - hire a facilitator or what's commonly known as a "fixer" - someone who knows and understands the culture, the system AND speaks the language.

A good fixer, not only knows how to navigate the "system," but also understands the art of "negotiation," because here in France everything is not always as it first appears. This is what I do and I practice in the area between Nice and Cap d'Ail on the Côte d'Azur.
